DELRAY NEIGHBORHOOD FRAMEWORK PLAN

DETROIT, mICHIGAN

BLD was called upon by the City of Detroit and Rossetti to investigate efficient landscape interventions for mitigating industrial and transportation pollutants in Delray. Spreading over approximately 2000-acres of predominantly industrial land, this neighborhood in the southwest region of Detroit has experienced decades of economic decline. Additionally, the construction of a 267-acre port of entry for the Gordie Howe International Bridge (GHIB) anticipates an increase in the presence of heavy-vehicular traffic in the neighborhood.

We worked with the City of Detroit and a wide array of planners, scientists, community groups, landowners, and residents. Our landscape planning strategy for this project aimed at offsetting industrial and transportation emissions, exploring opportunities to boost investment, and enhance the overall quality of life for existing residents and workers. Central to this, the plan explores a cost-effective long-term strategy and identifies coding opportunities to create efficient vegetative buffers that balance economic growth with environmental justice considerations.

The team worked with Delray’s residents to ensure that community voices were integrated into the planning of the future for Delray, taken into consideration and successfully shared knowledge. We are glad to announce the final plan release here.
